Chapter Educator Medalist Award

CONCEPT

The ASID Chapter Educator Medalist Award is the highest award bestowed by ASID on Society members at the chapter level in recognition of outstanding service and significant contributions to their chapter and to the body of knowledge that supports the profession of interior design. Medalist awards may be granted to ASID professional or allied members who fulfill the criteria that have been established by the ASID Examiners Committee. Receipt of a medalist award does not preclude future fellowship.

CRITERIA

The medal is granted on the basis of fulfilling all of the three following criteria:

Outstanding and significant service to interior design education and/or an ASID chapter. These contributions may be a combination of, but not limited to:

  • a genuine commitment to advancing the goals and/or strategic plan of the chapter
  • significantly contributing to chapter service and/or projects

Significant local, regional or national contributions to interior design education. These contributions may be a combination of, but not limited to:

  • leadership within the profession including educational and research contributions
  • leadership roles in related organizations such as NCIDQ, FIDER, etc.
  • contributions to educational efforts that serve to further design excellence

Outstanding, significant and continued contributions that have enriched the human experience in one or more of the following design-related fields:

  • community involvement and leadership
  • historic preservation
  • research of lasting significance
  • design innovation
  • environmental and/or sustainable design
  • universal design
  • authoring books and/or articles that advance the interior design field
  • providing education in an innovative manner

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered, Chapter Medalist award nominees must meet the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

Be current ASID professional or allied members in good standing. Current chapter presidents, fellows or members of the current ASID National Examiners Committee are ineligible.

Have demonstrated significant chapter involvement for 10 years or more as an affiliate, allied or professional member.

Members who have relocated to another chapter are eligible for a chapter educator medalist award, provided that the submitting chapter board supplies relevant material to substantiate the candidate's total of 10 years involvement within the respective chapters. The submitting chapter should also contact the previous chapter (only if the 10 year period includes another chapter) and ask for a letter of reference from a professional member in the former chapter who knows the candidate's experience with the former chapter.

It shall be the responsibility of the chapter board to research, document, and make its evaluation of the quality and quantity of the nominee's contribution, as well as the ethical character and professionalism of the nominee.

Each chapter is allowed one nomination annually for every 300 professional members. This translates into one nominee for the first 300 professional members; two nominees for chapter membership between 301 and 600, etc. If a nominee has served more than one chapter, the submitting chapter must count this submittal as their first permitted nominee. However, the chapter where the member previously served may still nominate an additional current chapter member.

JUDGING

The ASID National Examiners Committee will review all nominees at the board meeting following the submission deadline. Applications that are received after the deadline are not eligible for review.

The ASID National Examiners Committee will review and judge the submittals based on the criteria set forth on the previous page. It is noted that outstanding and exemplary service will be the benchmark. Efforts will be made to maintain high standards for medalist award recipients and create consistency from chapter to chapter.

Upon approval by the ASID National Examiners Committee, the medalist award recipients will be reported to the ASID Board of Directors. The appropriate contact for the submittal will subsequently be notified.

The award shall be presented to the Chapter Medalist honoree by either the chapter president or an ASID officer during a suitable chapter meeting. The award shall be presented before the end of the same calendar year.
